Tag Here on Life Over the Edge!

Published by sherrose at 3:05 pm under Daily Challenges Edit This

Today, I was tagged by Shawie, at a Grateful Heart! I enjoy reading Shawie’s blog–I visit most every day.  She writes very inspirational and calming, peaceful posts that are so uplifting!  If you need a pick-me-up be sure to visit Shawie’s blog!

This game of Tag is called Seven Things People Don’t Know About You.  Here are the rules:

1.  I have to link to the person who tagged me, that was Shawie.

2.  I have to share seven things about me you might not know.

3.  I need to tag seven people and link this post to them.

4.  I need to let them know they’ve been tagged!

OK…so here goes…seven things about me you might not know:

1. My husband and I met on the Internet!  This sounds like a bad greeting card line, but it’s true!  We met on a genealogy page!  Not the typical place to meet a future spouse!  Well, it wasn’t typical eleven years ago!  And I “blame” my Dad for this…he’s the one who put my email address on the ad…we were trying to find any family who might still be living around Bratislava, Slovakia…and my husband found this and wrote that his best friend had the same last name as my maiden name!  It took some time as I was a divorced mother with two daughters, but after a very long courtship (we’re talking years here, 6 years to be exact) we finally decided to marry and here I am!

2.  I came to the Czech Republic to live once both my kids were in college and settled.  My husband and I were married for two years before I moved here!  We lived apart during that time, but we saw each other as much as possible.  It wasn’t easy, but we love one another…and now we’re together!

3.  I am part Czech/Slovak on my Dad’s side, and I’m the first member of the family (the fourth generation) to come back to live in the “old country.”  It’s really interesting…and then marrying a Czech…my family was joking that I married a  home boy!

4.  I absolutely love music.  I have been a singer all my life, and love playing the autoharp.  Music stirs me like nothing else can do, aside from prayer.  It hits me directly in the heart of my soul.  When we go to a classical concert, I can’t sit still…at least one foot is tapping in time to the music!  I love all different genres of music…and music from around the world!

5.  I’m a voracious reader.  Usually I have several books  going at one time, and I can remember where I left off reading the last time!  I read everything from War and Peace to the Bible.  One of my favorite travel writers is Isabella Bird.  Are you familiar with her writing?

6.  I’m also a gizmo lover!  I love gizmos of any kind…from cell phones that are like Swiss army knives, to PDA’s filled with e-books, and everything in between.  I even have an electronic peak flow meter for my asthma!

7.   I love animals…even the ones I’m very allergic to.  I’ve had animals all my life.  When I was a kid growing up, my family always had two-three dogs, two cats, and a bunch of tropical fish!  When I moved here, I not only had to leave my daughters, and parents and other family, but also had to leave my dog, Pal.  Pal is a golden retriever/Chowchow mix…he’s very pretty and very bratty at times!  Pal has been my true pal for ten years, now.  He couldn’t move with me due to his age and health, but he’s very happily living with my parents and their dog, Jade.  I now have two gerbils, Pepa and Ota (boys) and they keep me very entertained and are also pretty good company!

Now, here is where I tag seven other people:

1.  Karen, at Empty Nest Expat , tells about the process of becoming an expat–from before her move to the present–where she is now living here in Prague.  Karen always has some great pictures and very awesome insights into the goings on here and back home.  If you’d like to learn more about Prague and the Czech Republic, be sure to stop by and read Karen’s blog!

2.  SY, at Golden Prague, is another expat who has recently moved to Prague.  SY shares insights about life here in the capital of the Czech Republic, and also offers tips on visiting and moving to Prague.  I’ve also heard tell that their cat sometimes does a  post or two, though that’s something I’ve only heard whispered between Pepa and Ota…as they sometimes are on the computer talking to the cat…oops…I keep forgetting this is a secret!  Be sure to read Golden Prague’s great posts about life in the Czech Republic!

3.  Hans and his friends, at Internation Musings ,  write a very insightful expat blog with an international flavor.  Each of the bloggers lives in a different country, and they collaborate on writing the blog.  The posts are very interesting and have perspectives that are insightful and make you think.  Every day there’s something new to read here, and beautiful pictures–everything from scenery to great art.  Be sure to check out Internation Musings–you won’t be disappointed!

4.  Maxiegirl, from Women Over Fifty,  writes a blog about her adventures at this time of life–over 50!  Maxiegirl writes with alot of verve and attitude (in a nice way!!) and always has an interesting story to tell.  Recently, she’s been posting about a trip that she and her husband took to Australia!  Be sure to check out Maxiegirl’s blog and find out how good life is when you’re a woman over fifty!

5.  Martin, at Bulgarian Slivatree , is an expat living in Bulgaria.  Martin writes about life there–how it’s very different from the typical life to be found in the West.  He always manages to help you see the differences between the East and West, and to see that life in Bulgaria may be hard, but he finds it wonderful and fulfilling!   Be sure to check out Martin’s blog and learn about life in Bulgaria!

6.  Lilysgramma, at Fatty Prejudice, writes about the challenges of being overweight, along with other health issues.  Lilysgramma writes in a very real and forthright way about these issues…she’s also got a great sense of humor!  You can find very helpful health topics on her website, and come away with not only new knowledge, but also a smile!  Check out Lilysgramma’s current post “Fat–the New Sexy”!  It’s great!

7.  Roz, at Life in Australia, is an expat living Down Under.  She writes very interesting and insightful stories about her life and adventures living as an Aussie!  One of Roz’s most recent series of posts deals with a trip she took that turned into a mini-vacation in Sydney!  Roz’s current posts are about the train and how to get around Sydney.  Be sure to check out Roz’s blog if you would like to learn what daily life is really like Down Under!

Now, I have to visit everyone’s blogs and let them know they have been tagged!  Laughing

Hi Sher, Thank you for sharing such fascinating details about yourself. The story of how you met your husband is amazing and it’s wonderful too that you have ‘returned to your roots’ after 4 generations!! It’s a shame that you had to leave Pal behind but I’m sure that he’s in good hands!

Thanks for the nice review of my blog and for passing on the tag.

    Best wishes,

    Roz
