Tick Saliva Might be Good Medicine!

Published by sherrose at 11:20 am under Scientific Studies & News Edit This

Today’s post is slightly related to yesterday’s post about ticks–in that I’m talking about ticks again today!  I was reading through my Google news alerts and found a title for a story that was very intriguing: Protein from Tick Saliva Studied for Potential Myasthenia Gravis Treatment .  This is a very interesting story.  I’ve heard of scientists looking to various venoms from snakes and spiders as possible treatments for everything from pain to cancer, but had not really thought about them using the saliva of a tick for anything good–such as a treatment for a chronic illness!  This might be a great thing–to find some positive use for a tick! Laughing  I sure wish them the best of luck…and hope this will be a viable treatment for myasthenia gravis and other diseases–a treatment that could bring relief to so many!!!  All from the saliva of a humble tick!

Medicine can be strange. I take a medicine for my diabetes that is a synthetic version of the spit in a Gila monster’s mouth. It helps a lot in my sugar control. Informally, users call it Lizzard Spit. (smile)
